Eggplant Gratin

This is what it looked like today outside.

Hello again.

Today was filled with all sorts of adventures, most of which I will not share. In the end, however, Mumsy (My mother) bought me THREE pairs of new shoes from Payless. Talk about awesome! Being of the female gender, this is a particularly awesome thing.

Anyway, back to the food. Tonight I prepared "Eggplant Gratin". This recipe was from Ina Garten of Food Network. She and Alton Brown are probably my favourite. This time, I took pictures throughout the cooking process to make it all look a little more interesting.

First the recipe instructed to cut and fry eggplant strips. This part was particularly painful because the oil is hot and splashes up frequently. (Ina warns you of this...) I tried my best to hide behind a cloth, but still I was burned. Oh well.

Sliced the eggplant...

Fried it up.

Nice and cooked now. :)

After the eggplant is all done, you need to layer it into the dish with some parmesan cheese, salt, pepper and marinara sauce. After that, you add another layer of eggplant and to it off with a ricotta cheese mixture and bake it for about 30 minutes at 400°F.

First layer.

Second layer with marinara and the cheese sauce.

Wait 30 minutes in the oven. Gustav could smell it and definitely wanted some.

Bon Apetit!
